An IAS officer of 1984 batch, Maharashtra cadre, Dr. Malini V Shankar is currently the Vice Chancellor of the Indian Maritime University. Her earlier assignments include Director General of Shipping, Government of India on the rank and pay of Secretary to Government of India, and Chairperson of the National Shipping Board.
She is an honorary Member of the Board of Directors of the World Maritime University since 2018, having been nominated by the Secretary General, International Maritime Organisation.
Dr. Shankar obtained her doctoral degree in Institutional Economics from the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras (India) and Management degree from the Asian Institute of Management, Manila, Philippines.
A recipient of prestigious international scholarships and academic awards, Dr. Shankar was one of the 7 global recipients of the AAA Award 2020 by the Asian Institute of Management, Manila, Philippines. She is the first Indian woman to receive the Award.
She is the recipient of the Maritime SheEO Lifetime Achievement Award 2024 and the Samudramanthan Anna Malhotra Award 2023
