Huge Budget for 2008 unveiled - 29 December 2007

Male, November 29; Finance Minister Ibrahim Gasim have placed huge budget before the country for the year 2008. Ibrahim Gasim has set aside a total of 11.9billion Rufiyaa (Rf) for 2008, a whisker less than the 12.3 billion Rf unveiled for 2007.

Male, December 7; Team from the Sub Committee on the Prevention against Torture under the Optional Protocol to the Convention against Torture has been scheduled to visit Maldives to inspect the detention centers and Jails in the country.

Male, December 12; Statistics maintained by Employment Ministry indicate that expatriate population in Maldives has reached 67,942. Statistics indicate that 26,394 expatriates work in the construction industry and of the 26,394 expatriates 26,333 are from countries in Asia.
