Issues, Ideas and Challenges in Elementary Education, E-learning for Teacher's Capacity Building.
Background
Rammohan Khanapurkar has done Masters in Communication and Journalism from the University of Mumbai. He has considerable experience as a lecturer in various Media colleges in Mumbai. During his lectureship he was exposed to critical gaps in knowledge acquisition among students at different levels. The turning point came, when he realized that even at the higher education level students are intellectually hamstrung, due to facile foundation at the school level. School system with rote learning, overt focus on marks and stunted space for critical thinking has a debilitating effect at the higher education level. With this realization he started exploring much talked about but less researched field of elementary education. He joined ORF in June 2011 and since working on 'Issues, Ideas and Challenges in Elementary Education'. His extensive trips to hinterlands gave him first hand imprint of issues involved in early education. This encounter with unsettling reality prompted him to initiate research and advocacy work in association with other organizations active in this field.
Along with issues, he is actively working on capacity building of teachers through e-learning and innovative use of ICT, esp. for classroom pedagogy.
Presently
In his present capacity as a fellow he is working on Developing E-learning and ICT support for elementary school teachers and Review of Teacher's Education System in Maharashtra.
